Adobe Reader Is Not Installing

broken image

Adobe Acrobat was the first software to support Adobe Systems' Portable Document Format (PDF). It is a family of software, some commercial and some free of charge. The Acrobat Reader program (now just called Adobe Reader) is available as a no-charge download from Adobe's web site, and allows the viewing and printing of PDF files. If you've updated to the latest version of Adobe Reader/Acrobat and it hasn't fixed the problem, you'll need to repair your Adobe installation. Close Acrobat/Reader and all open web browser windows. Select the Start button at the bottom left of your screen. Type Control Panel, then press Enter. Select Programs and Features.

Download, Customise, and Deployment method of Acrobat Reader.

Note 1: As mentioned in the comments, upgrade from DC19 to DC20 seems to be an issue. Did not find workaround yet, would appreciate feedback.

Note 2: If customisation is not important, or if domain connectivity is not possible, see step 5 for a community supported deployment method pulling latest updates automatically - https://chocolatey.org/

5 Steps total

Step 1: Preparations

To distribute on a company intranet site or local network you should apply here:
https://acrobat.adobe.com/uk/en/acrobat/pdf-reader/volume-distribution.html

Download the latest EXE installation file in your preferred language:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/
Note: If an EXE is not available, download the MSP (not MUI), then go back in the release history and download the latest available EXE.

Optional: Download and Install the latest 'Acrobat Customisation Wizard'
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/AcrobatDC/misc/

Step 2: Administrative Install Point

Copy installation file (exe) to c: (root)
Note: Always update filenames to latest versions in commands below.

Imac mouse right click. Open cmd as administrator and run the following to extract the exe:
c:AcroRdrDC2000620034_en_US.exe -nos_ne -nos_o'C:Extract'

msiexec /a C:ExtractAcroRead.msi
Note: Specify network location: C:Install)

copy C:Extractsetup.ini C:Installsetup.ini

Adobe Reader Is Not Installing Device

msiexec /a C:InstallAcroRead.msi /p C:ExtractAcroRdrDCUpd2000620034.msp
Note: Replace with the latest MSP if the EXE did not included it.

Step 3: Customisation (optional)

Open 'Acrobat Customisation Wizard'
File – Open Package (C:InstallAcroRead.msi)

Personalization tab:
EULA option - Suppress Via download mac.

Installation tab:
Run Installation - Silently (no interface), Suppress Reboot

Shortcuts tab:
Desktop Shortcut - Remove

WebMail Tab:
Prevent end users

Online tab:
Disable product updates
Disable upsell
Disable all Adobe services
Disable all Third-party connectors

Click File – Save Package

Test installation:
msiexec.exe /i C:InstallAcroRead.msi /q TRANSFORMS=C:InstallAcroRead.mst

Step 4: GPO Deployment

Copy folder 'C:Install' to '%UserDomain%NETLOGONAcroRead' Gr caricature master ii photoshop action 19852002 download free.

Open 'Group Policy Management MMC'
Open OU of testing computers - Right-Click and 'Create GPO and Link it here'
(no need to upgrade existing package - installer will remove old version anyway)

Name it according to the version - 'Deploy_AcroReadDC1701130066'
Edit GPO - Expand 'Computer Configuration – Policies – Software Settings'

Right click 'Software Installations' and select ‘New - Package'
Browse to '%UserDomain%NETLOGONAcroRead' and select the MSI

Select deployment method: Advanced
Under 'Modifications' tab, press 'Add' and select the MST file (optional)
Press OK to save the installation package.

Side-note:
Right-Click the GPO and set 'GPO Status' to 'User Configuration Settings Disabled' (speed-up startup)

Cornerstone 4 v4 1. Test GPO:
Assign GPO to Test OU, Run 'gpupdate /force' - restart on prompt
If install went OK, assign the GPO to Production OUs.

Step 5: Chocolatey deployment alternative

Skip step 1-3.
In step 4, instead of adding the MSI package, add the below as a GPO Startup script (see attached, rename to .bat). This will:
1. install the chocolatey software (if not already installed)
2. create a startup script to keep everything updated
3. install adobe reader from the community packages

THANKS fo this How-to. I'll try it but I wonder if the same thing could work for Adobe Flash. What do you think?

NP :-) Unfortunately there's no Customisation Wizard for the Flash player. (see http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/44640)

Thank you! I haven't tried this because the Adobe documentation is far longer.

This worked fine for us to roll out Adobe Reader XI via Group Policy.
Don't forget when testing, if after having it installed, you then manually uninstall it from add/remove, it won't auto reinstall.
You could redeploy it via group policy, but for a single user there's a couple of reg keys to delete in order to have it reinstall.

    Correction Required

In order to successfully slipstream the patch .MSP file into the base .MSI file the syntax of the following command needs to be corrected:

    FROM
    msiexec /a C:InstallAcroRead.msi /p C:ExtractAdbeRdrUpd11004.msp
    TO
    msiexec /a C:InstallAcroRead.msi /update C:ExtractAdbeRdrUpd11004.msp

With this change this process works for deploying incremental updates to Adobe Reader via GPO.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you for your input. Updated docs to 11.0.7. As for the /update vs /p, I tested both and they are working, but I use /p because it is mentioned in the Adobe admin guide (http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/cmdline.html) As for the incremental updates, I'm interested to know how you deploy those with GPO using the msi method?

A question regarding MST files. Is it better to add the MST to the Modifications in Group Policy, or go ahead and apply it directly to the MSI file like so:

    msiexec /a C:InstallAcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11007.msp TRANSFORMS='AcroRead.mst'

Secondly, is it still the case that it's better to not store installable programs in the SYSVOL directory? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889710?wa=wsignin1.0

THIS WAS AWESOME!!! You made a very complicated process quite simple. I have been deploying Adobe products at my school (300+ PC's) and each product they produce has random, different way of installing. ((Flash is an .msi, don't even get me started on CS6 installations on Mac and PC.))

    Thanks! Reviews on brave browser.

    Any ideas?

Cisdem pdf converter ocr 7 5 0 download free. I followed this guide, but it installed 11.0.0 and not 11.0.9 which is the exe I used as the source. I can't seem to get it to update to 11.0.9, when I run the msiexec command to add the 11009.msp I get an error that 'The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.'

danny - i updated and tested version 11.9, all working. see if you find what is not working for you, maybe the filenaming?

andreas - i think all you need is the german download, adjust for different filenames, but the other tools should work anyway, no?

If you have Adobe Reader installed in a previous version, uninstall this before. This has helped me .

This morning I wondered if this was even possible. Not only was it possible, but you owned it. And not only did you own it, you shared it. Thank you.

Very much appreciated. You saved me lots of unnecessary mouse clicks and administrative approval log-ins for Adobe Reader updates.

With your help I was able to deliver the change after 2 hours (download, test, document)
